The “Immediates” in Implant Dentistry – Demystifying the Many Confusing Protocols and Methods



We live in a world of instant gratification. Patients want things to be done faster, and even on the spot. Predictable soft and hard tissue regeneration, so crucial to the clinical success of each case is highly dependent on the appropriate selection of material as well as the technique and approach. Can we have both? Predictability as well as “immediate” results?

“Immediates” in implant dentistry can be quite confusing, as many talk different definitions. There could even be deception on the part of the clinician calling a procedure “immediate”, intentionally or not. This presentation will outline the following treatment modalities based on the merits of evidence: (1) immediate implant placement, (2) immediate provisionalization, and (3) immediate load.
